“RAVE ON II” ART EXHIBIT:

Event Description:
The Rave On II Exhibit will include various art works by regional artists.
All of the images depict scenes from the baby boomer era. Also included
in the exhibit are large photos of the personal effects found at the
crash site including Buddy Holly’s glasses and a brief history of these
photos. The photos were taken by then Des Moines Register photographer
Bob Mohderson.

From Wednesday through Saturday, the Arts Center will be showing films
including “The Real Buddy Holly Story” produced by Paul McCartney, “The
Buddy Holly Story” with Gary Busey, “La Bamba” with Lou Diamond Phillips,
“American Graffiti” with Ron Howard and several other films released
in 1959 including “The Music Man” and “South Pacific”. A schedule of
these films will be posted at the Arts Center.

As part of 50 Winters Later, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum’s
award-winning Education department will teach a class on the lives and
musical legacies of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. “The Big Bopper”
Richardson and the significance of their influence on rock and roll
history. Rock Hall educators will teach this interactive, multimedia
class to multiple grade levels at the Clear Lake School over three days.
After the event, the program will continue to be offered throughout
the year as part of the Rock Hall’s distance education program, On
the Road.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum will dedicate the Surf Ballroom
as a historic rock and roll landmark as part of the Museum’s ongoing
Landmark Series which identifies locations in America that are significant
to the origins and development of rock and roll. Along with the Surf
Ballroom, other sites that have been designated as historic rock and
roll landmarks by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum are the
Whisky-a-Go-Go in Los Angeles where the Doors were resident performers;
Brooklyn High School in Brooklyn, Ohio, the location Elvis played his
first concert north of the Mason-Dixon line; and Clarksdale, Mississippi,
the cradle of blues.

by talented group of theatre artists from the Spencer Community Theatre,
Spencer Iowa. “Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story” follows the tragically
short life of Buddy Holly from his first recording contract, his marriage
to a young Puerto Rican girl named Maria Elena, through to his move
to New York and concluding with the fatal tour of the Midwest. This
show is not to be missed as Buddy sings his way through two hours of
some of the best rock ‘n’ roll songs ever written. Performance scheduled
to take place at No reserved seating available
